Royal Commission Support

Support for people involved with or impacted by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse

About the Royal Commission

In 2013 the Federal Government announced the establishment of a Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, with wide-ranging powers to investigate childhood sexual abuse within institutions. Ballarat has an extensive history where this occurred in a number of institutions. The Royal Commission focused on this history in case study 28, with public hearings held over three occasions, focusing on child sexual abuse in the Catholic Institutions in Ballarat and the response by the authorities.

Ballarat CASA received a steady increase in referrals over this period of time and staff have been providing support to people impacted by or involved in the Royal Commission.
